This year, devastating tornadoes impacted the St. Louis region, destroying over 5,000 structures and displacing thousands of residents. Our recovery is just beginning, and I remain committed to ensuring our community receives all necessary resources to rebuild stronger than ever. My office is here to assist you with federal agency interactions.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
FEMA coordinates federal disaster assistance. Those affected by either the March 14-15 or May 16 storms may be eligible for Individual Assistance if uninsured or underinsured.
Application Deadlines:
- March 14–15 Storms: July 22, 2025
- May 16 Storms: August 11, 2025

Types of Assistance:
- Housing Assistance: Temporary housing, rental assistance, lodging expenses, and home repair or replacement.
- Other Needs Assistance: Personal property losses, medical, dental, childcare, and funeral expenses.
- Serious Needs Assistance: Immediate essentials like food, water, medication.
- Displacement Assistance: Immediate housing support if displaced.
Disaster Recovery Centers with FEMA Individual Assistance staff are opening in the City of St. Louis to help people affected by the May 16 tornado and storms. The first Disaster Recovery Center opens this Saturday, June 21. At all locations, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will help impacted residents with their disaster assistance applications, answer questions, and upload required documents.

To save time, please apply for FEMA assistance before coming to a Disaster Recovery Center. Apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. If you are unable to apply online or by phone, someone at the Disaster Recovery Center can assist you. You may visit any location, no matter where you are staying now. If your home or personal property sustained damage not covered by insurance, FEMA may be able to provide money to help you pay for home repairs, a temporary place to live, and replace essential personal property that was destroyed.
Small Business Administration (SBA)
Low-interest federal disaster loans available for homeowners, renters, small businesses, and nonprofits.

- May 16 Storms:
- Physical damage loans: August 22, 2025

Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Tax filing and payment deadlines extended to November 3, 2025, for affected residents.

- Disaster-related casualty loss claims may be filed on 2024 or 2025 tax returns (deadline: October 15, 2026).
U.S. Department of Education

U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD)
- 90-day foreclosure moratorium for FHA mortgages
- Section 203(h): FHA insurance for disaster victims with 100% financing available
- Section 203(k): Loans for purchasing/rehabilitating homes
