Rep. Bell Statement on Israeli Strikes on Iran

Washington, D.C.— Today, U.S. Representative Wesley Bell (D-Mo.) released the following statement:

“Iran having a nuclear weapon would be catastrophic for the United States, Israel, and our regional allies. It would also very likely result in a larger conflict. The Iranian regime is a leading state sponsor of terrorism, has attacked U.S. service members in the past, and has been quite clear about its intentions toward the U.S. and Israel. If Iran were to possess nuclear weapons, it would be naive to believe they would not use them. Israel is well within its rights to take those threats seriously.

But war carries an enormous cost in lives lost, families shattered, and consequences we can’t always predict or control. Diplomacy isn’t weakness; it’s the hard work of trying to prevent catastrophe. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am very concerned about protecting our service members stationed in the region and will do everything in my power to support their safety.”
